First Stop- Etretat, 2nd-6th of May 2016

It was a nice change to stay by the sea again and with it came a welcome change to the weather!  The layers are starting to peel off! Just one jacket needed now....Still chilly but sunny!

Etretat was a very touristy town which was like a ghost town at night and early morning but the type of town where tourists would be bused in to spend the day. So it was quite lovely to run early in the morning ....and by early I am talking 9am....and not see a soul on the beach or the cliff walks and by 11am it be filled to the brim with people.....everywhere!

We loved riding the antique elevator up to our 3rd floor apartment and we enjoyed watching Oskar through the glass as he raced us up by the stairs as the rest of us took the lift.

Cam got a few rides in and shared the shower with his bike....yes...his bike.

We dined in every night as the restaurants were heavily overpriced and aimed at tourists and were happy to instead frequent the bakery and creperie for the odd indulgent treat.

The cliffs were stunning, however walking up there by myself with 2 young kids and no barriers anywhere was nerve racking. It is interesting to see how  Europe and Oz's Safety regulations are very different. FYI- I'm holding on to Ivy while photographing.....tightly!

No parking in the streets meant our car was left up up up on top of the cliffs for the whole time we were there and we walked everywhere.

The Benedictine Palace/Distillery in Fecamp was impressive.....

I liked that we were able to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of this town and its amazing landscape without the throngs of tourists ....in the still and quiet of sunrise and sunset...

....and our stay went a little bit like this....Click the link.....if you have a spare 4 minutes.

  • Calais to Etretat 272 klms.
  • Average lows 4 degrees, highs 15-20 degrees
  • How's our French?- poor but getting by.
